Life would be boring if we all got on all of the time, and most people hide how they really feel about Co-Workers or our bosses. Sometimes we just snap, here are some of the best On-Set Squabbles of recent memory…

George Clooney Vs David O. Russell (Three Kings 1999)

Mr Nice Guy George Clooney losing his rag? Really? That happened?

It seems that working with David O. Russell will do that to you. Reports vary over exactly what happened but it seems that O. Russell was giving the extras and the crew a bit of a hard time and Clooney gave him what for, which resulted in a headbutt aimed in George’s direction and a fist aimed in O. Russell’s

Punches were thrown which led to frosty last few weeks of shooting but Clooney openly said it was “truly, without exception, the worst experience of my life” and has vowed never to work with Russell again.

Marlon Brando Vs Frank Oz (The Score 2001)

Marlon Brando took to calling director Frank Oz “Fozzy” and “Miss Piggy” during the movie. Oz is the voice of the Fozzy Bear and Miss Piggy characters in The Muppets. Brando’s hazing of Oz over his work with the Muppets got so bad that Robert De Niro was forced to direct Brando instead, with Oz giving him instructions via headset.

Definitely handbags, Brando is renowned for being difficult and took full advantage of Frank Oz’s Muppet past.

Rip Torn Vs Norman Mailer (Maidstone 1970)

Rip Torn disliked the direction Norman Mailer wanted to take the movie, so Torn decided the best course of action would be to whack Mailer in the head with a hammer. Mailer and Torn fought, Mailer bit the actor in the ear and pulled him to the ground. The fight, which was caught on tape and featured in the film, was eventually broken up by cast members

You don’t take a hammer to a handbag fight…

Edward Norton Vs Tony Kaye (American History X)

A relationship that got 200 hours of American History X in the can can’t be bad right? But Kaye’s edit of the film did not impress and with Kaye’s blessing Norton took the editors chair. Tempers reportedly ran so high in the editing room that Kaye smashed his fist through a wall, breaking his hand in the process. Kaye demanded his name be removed from the credits, and called Norton a “narcissistic dilettante”, accusing him of “raping” his film.

Norton kept his cool and got his second Oscar Nomination but both parties left the film with a ‘Difficult To Handle’ sign firmly around their neck.

Werner Herzog Vs. Klaus Kinski (Aguirre, the Wrath of God 1972)

One evening, Kinski, irritated by the noise from a hut where cast and crew were playing cards, Kinski decided to fire his guns at it, blowing the top joint off one extra’s finger. Subsequently, Kinski started leaving the jungle location (over Herzog’s refusal to fire a sound assistant), only changing his mind after Herzog threatened to shoot first Kinski and then himself. The latter incident has given rise to the legend that Herzog made Kinski act for him at gunpoint.

Herzog denies ever ‘Pulling a gun’ on Kinski and they both worked together many times afterwards becoming one of the most revered Actor/Director partnerships of all time.

Lily Tomlin Vs David O. Russell (I Heart Huckabees 2004)

Appearance number two for Mr O. Russell, Just watch him go off at Tomlin here…

Lily Tomlin stays composed which is what probably makes O. Russell see red, he behaves like a child and possibly put the entire production in jeopardy.

Christian Bale Vs Shane Hurlbut (Terminator Salvation 2009)

This infamous shouting match took place on the set of Terminator Salvation, Its basically Bale ripping into the cinematographer for a bit too long, take a look here…

The video went viral and spawned many parodies, it cemented Bale as being ‘Difficult’ but in retrospect a few of the crew have said that Shane was causing issues and that Bale was justified.
