Scarlett Johansson: Top 5 Performances

August 21, 2013 by Craig Sutherland

Scarlett Johansson is also considered one of Hollywood’s modern female sex symbols, and has frequently appeared in published lists of the sexiest women in the world, most notably when she was named the “Sexiest Woman Alive” by Esquire Magazine in 2006.

She can act as well, Here’s my top 5 favourite performances by her…

5) Avengers Assemble

Four Words: “Black Widow Interrogation Scene”

4) Ghost World

Johansson plays the indie card and comes out trumps in Terry Zwigoff’s massively underrated Ghost World, based on Daniel Clowes comic of the same name and not featuring any actual ghosts.

3) The Girl With A Pearl Earring

Many reviewers say “It’s not as good as the book”, but they rarely are, are they? Still, a great performance in this and Lost In Translation made 2003 Scarlett’s year.

2) Vicky Christina Barcelona

Scarlett plays one of two girlfriends (The other being Rebecca Hall) on a summer holiday in Spain who become enamoured with the same painter, unaware that his ex-wife, with whom he has a tempestuous relationship, is about to re-enter the picture.

1) Lost In Translation

For everyone who knows me, this was the only choice. Sofia Coppola directs Scarlett & Bill Murray in this beautiful film about an likely friendship formed in Tokyo. Perfection.

Here’s some interesting facts about Scarlett…

  • Shortly after Lost in Translation (2003) was released, she said she had a connection to older men and couldn’t see herself dating anyone under 30. True to her word, she had a relationship with actor Benicio Del Toro, who is 17 years her senior.
  • Auditioned for a role in The Parent Trap (1998), which finally went to Lindsay Lohan.
  • An avid fan of Tom Waits, she recorded an album comprised entirely of Tom Waits covers, titled “Anywhere I Lay My Head”. The album was released on May 16, 2008, but was not widely recognized.
  • Tested for the role of Karen in Mean Girls (2004) but lost out to Amanda Seyfried.
  • Scarlett has been offered to play many different roles during her carrier. Of the most famous characters she could have played are the Invisible Girl in Fantastic Four, Lindsey Farris in Mission: Impossible III, Evey in V for Vendetta and Lois Lane in Superman Returns.

Next Up, Scarlett stars in Spike Jonze’s new film ‘Her’ with Joaquin Phoenix, The film is now set for a US release on November 20th, 2013, according to Box Office Mojo‘s release calendar. Take a look at the AWESOME trailer here…
